This weekend North Ayrshire Ice Hockey Penguins welcomed the Belfast Junior Giants U12s team.
With not many games played this season we were unsure of how tough our opposition from across the waters would be. The previous season we only just came away with a win.
The game started with a fantastic goal just thirteen seconds in from North Ayr’s Emma Lamberton, assisted by Jacob Woods and Liam Houston.
The remainder of the first period was hard fought, with neither side managing to score.
The second period picked up pace with a steady flow of goals from North Ayr, the first from Liam Houston, assisted by Jacob Woods and Adam Bainbridge, the second Flynn Massie saw an opportunity and took it.
Liam Houston managed the third, assisted by Emma Lamberton and Flynn Massie.
Penguins Net Minder Caiden MacColl swapped 7 minutes into the second period, leaving the ice with a shutout.
Belfast also had a change of net minders following a great performance by Harry Bienlowe.
Penguins Lennon Deeney, assisted by Liam Houston and Rocco Murray managed the fourth.
Belfast’s Net Minder Michael Robb didn’t find time to gain his momentum as the Penguins managed three more goals within a minute the first from Jacob Woods and the second from Flynn Massie, both assisted by Liam Houston and Rocco Murray. The final goal within the second period was from Adam Bainbridge, a fantastic well aimed long range shot, assisted by Emma Lamberton and Lennon Deeney.
North Ayr started the third period strongly with Rocco Murray scoring, assisted by Emma Lamberton and Jacob Woods, this was closely followed by Liam Houston, assisted by Net Minder Calum Simmonds (first assist for Calum this season).
The Irish were not for giving up and picked up pace making double the break throughs on North Ayr’s goal, at last managing to penetrate the defence of North Ayr, Jude Beattie scored assisted by Louie Graham and Reece Dalzell. This was closely followed by another goal from Aaron Welsh, assisted by Ben Miskelly.
In response North Ayr managed one more final goal by Jacob Woods, assisted by Rocco Murray and Liam Houston.
Thankfully the luck of the Irish was on our side final score North Ayrshire Penguins 11 – Belfast Junior Giants 2.
No Man of the Match was awarded as we needed to vacate the ice quickly to allow the under 14s game to get underway, after all the far travelled Belfast teams needed to make sure they caught that ferry home.
Next up was North Ayrshire Stars v Belfast Junior Giants U14’s.
This game started off with the Stars finding themselves a man down after a player being sent to penalty box with only 29 seconds on the clock, but that didn’t hold the Stars back with them finding the net 11 seconds later. It was to be another strong performance from the Stars. Scoring was spread around the team, proving that they are playing as a team and passing the puck.
Final Score: North Ayrshire Stars 10 – 3 Belfast Junior Giants U14’s. Goals from Dylan Murray, Flynn Massie, Cole McMurdie, Josh Carslaw, Jacob Woods, Jack Neil and Adam Bainbridge with assists from Josh, Jack,Flynn, Dylan, Jacob, Kerr Drummond, Conor Wood, Liam Houston & Zak Orr
