Unlucky weekend for our teams

Saturday 7th March
North Ayrshire Stars v Inverness U14’s
This game was cancelled the day before by Inverness and due to the shortness of the cancellation the Stars were unable to arrange an alternative fixture.

North Ayrshire Predators v Belfast Junior Giants U16’s Scottish Cup Semi-final – Auchenharvie Ice Rink, Stevenston.

The Predators welcomed Belfast to Stevenston with the hope of winning a place in the Scottish Cup final.  Both teams came out fighting and the action was hard and fast moving round the rink at such a pace but despite their best efforts it was Belfast who opened the scoring.  The 1st period saw a heavy loss for the Predators but that only seemed to make them come out fighting. The next 2 periods were better for the Predators but they could not overcome the advantage Belfast had made and although they continued to battle until the very last buzzer, they were outplayed by the clinical and effective performance from Belfast.  We wish them well in the final of the Scottish Cup.  Final Score: North Ayrshire Predators 1 – 9 Belfast Junior Giants. Man of the Match: Goal scorer Josh Carslaw! Photos by Stephen Carslaw.

North Ayrshire Wild v Murrayfield Racers at Murrayfield Ice Rink, Edinburgh

The first of this weekends games saw the Wild travel to Murrayfield to play the Racers & what a game this turned out to be. The first period saw both sides put on a high level display of skills & it was the Wild who scored first with an unassisted goal from Martin Cardno, but this was short lived when the Racers pulled one back 2 mins later. Into the second and it was end to end stuff from both teams and the Wild took the lead for a second time by slitting a goal past the Racers net minder with a goal from Gary Parker assisted by Ryan Parkin and Martin Cardno, the period ending 2-1 to the Wild. The 3rd period and some refereeing decisions meant this game was getting rough. The Racers then lost a player for a check to the head and repeated bad mouthing to the ref so he was expelled from the game.  The Racers pushed forward and with 2 further goals against Wilds goal this brought an end to the game with the score 4-3 to the Racers. Man of Match: John Russell our net-minder.

Sunday 8th March

North Ayrshire Wild v – Dundee Tigers at Auchenharvie Ice Rink, Stevenston.

After such a good game the night before, could the Wild get a result at home against the Tigers.  The first period saw the Wild pick up where they left off on Saturday night & showed some great skills, with a full bench of 4 lines, the first saw some end to end stuff, it was turning out to be a good game with the period ending 0-0.  Into the 2nd we saw the Tigers take the first opportunity by scoring but this was short lived when Ryan Parkin equalised with a pass from Martin Cardno and Gary Parker. 3 minutes later Gary Parker was involved again and scored another for the Wild, it took 6 mins for the next goal but this was scored by the other team. Period ends 2-2. Into the 3rd we saw the Tigers score two quick goals within 2 mins of the period starting which left the Wild deflated with no way back but they tried, running with 2 line hockey, it wasn’t to be and the game finished 4-2 to the Racers. Man of Match: Martin Cardno who played his last game in a Wild jersey as he has decided it’s time to give up and retire.
