Stars (U14’s) v Lanarkshire Lightening – 1st home game of the seaon.
Looking to carry on the winning ways from last week.
The game started with both teams closely matched, both giving some of the 2nd year 12’s a chance to play for their U14’s team. Lanarkshire arrived with a large travelling support who have been cheering and revved up before the previous U12’s game started.
Both teams come out hard but despite significant pressure on the Lanarkshire defence & goalie, it takes till 4 mins before the end before there is a breakthrough for the Stars with a goal from Dylan Simpson. With the pace significantly ramped up its Brodie Kay for Lightening who scores off the back of our 1st goal. Two more goals follow for the Stars from Cole McMurdie and then Dylan Murray in the last 30 seconds of the period putting the Stars 3-1 in front.
Period 2 had a perfect start for the Stars, with a 2nd goal from Cole within the first 40 seconds. As the period continues the Stars look the more dominate side with at times, little trouble from Lanarkshire even making way into Stars half. 8 minutes to go and the game takes a turn, Stars find themselves with 2 players in the penalty box (a 2+10 for one of them), Lanarkshire jump on this opportunity , with 5 mins left, Lightening score on the powerplay, then end the period with another in the back of our net. With Stars incurring some 14 penalty minutes this has indeed been a more gruelling period than the first, leaving the score at 4-3 to Stars.
Period 3 Stars still have a player still sitting in the penalty box. 11 minutes to go, Stars score, in the form of Dylan Murray, but this is short lived when they get another penalty soon after. With both Stars & Lightening spending equal time in the penalty boxes this period it made for a tough time but then with only 49 seconds to go, in goes the final goal from the Stars, making it a hat trick for Dylan Murray, to conclude what was a dominant but hard fought victory for the home side.
Final Score: Stars 6 – 3 Lightening – Man of the match – Cole McMurdie
