Saturday 16th March
North Ayrshire Sabres & Ltp v Kirkcaldy Kestrels Under 8’s 7 Under 10’s.
We welcomed the Kestrels for a x-ice & 2/3rd’s ice games during our usual training session. This was to give 2 teams the chance to put what they had been learning into practice. Kirkcaldy came looking for revenge after Sabres ran out 7-1 winners last time the 2 sides met and the came out the traps flying racing into a commanding lead in the first period. It was more of the same in the 2nd and 3rd periods with north ayr failing to get a hold of the game and Kirkcaldy ran out comfortable winners. Man Of The Match: Paul Corrigan
The Learn To Play also welcomed a team from Kirkcaldy for a x-ice game. Both teams showing some very good puck control and some very good finishing. Mom: Mark Mckenzie
North Ayrshire Penguins v Kirkcaldy Kestrels U12’s
This was going to be a fantastic game, Kestrels are sitting top of the league table with Penguins close behind in 2nd place with Kestrels being the only team to have beaten the Penguins this season. Penguins were looking to reverse the result of their last meeting and came out fast and hard from the very 1st puck drop and it was Liam Houston who scored 1st for the Penguins a fantastic short-handed goal with 2.37 seconds gone, with a buzz going round the team and the spectators both teams fought hard taking the play all over the rink and unfortunately receiving some penalties for both teams, It was Kirkcaldy who scored next but this was cancelled out with another fine goal for the Penguins from Jacob Woods just 39 seconds before the period ended.
The 2nd period was just as tight with both net minders pulling out some great saves but it was Kestrels who levelled the score and then followed it up seconds later with another before Jacob netted his 2nd goal after some great team play from Flynn Massie & Emma Lamberton which enabled Jacob to find the back of the net. Both teams continued to find themselves taking shot after shot at the net before Kestrels managed to breakthrough and finish this period 1 goal up.
The 3rd period was not a winning one for the Penguins for, although they battled just as hard, tired legs were starting to set in and the bounces were just not going their way as Kestrels managed to bag another 3 goals to win the game. The Penguins never gave up, with each player giving their everything and leaving it all on the ice. Their coach Gary MacColl praised his team for that “I couldn’t be anymore proud with the effort that was put in until the final whistle, you should all come away from that game with the heads held high’.
The team was understandably gutted to have lost, but their efforts, team play and sportsmanship did not go unnoticed and these young players have a bright future ahead.
Final Score: North Ayrshire Penguins 3 – 7 Kirkcaldy Kestrels. Goals: 2x Jacob Woods & 1 Liam Houston with assists from Emma Lamberton & Flynn Massie.
North Ayrshire Predators v Kirkcaldy Kestrels U16’s
A very tough opposition as always with plenty big strong players. But we gave it our all.
Final Score: North Ayrshire Predators 2 – 8 Kirkcaldy Kestrels. Man of the Match: Antony Curlett.
Sunday 17th March
North Ayrshire Devils v Dundee Stars U20’s

North Ayrshire Sabres v Dundee Stars U10’s
Sabres bounced back from Saturdays defeat and won today’s game.
They all played great as a team, passing the puck well and taking all there chances. To come away with a well deserved win over Dundee. Great game to watch.
Sunday saw the Sabres travel to Kilmarnock to take on Dundee Stars. This was the 1st time both sides had met this season. Sabres were out to make up for a disappointing result the previous night and started this game well taking the lead in the opening minute and they didn’t look back. The 1st period finished with North Ayr leading 5-1. The second was also to go the way of the home side although Dundee were proving to be tough opponents Sabres took a comfortable lead into the 3rd period. The 3rd period had some tired legs for the Sabres playing their second game of the weekend against 2 very good teams but the team done well to dig in and run out eventual 14-4 winners. Mom: Ashton Lomas
The officials from North Ayr Sabres would like to thank both teams for coming through to the West Coast and giving our kids 2 very tough games.
