Welcome to this years North Ayrshire Stars, our Under 14’s team.

They train on a Thursday at Auchenharvie Ice Rink, Stevenston.

Caiden is our Net Minder, and our Forwards and Defence players are: Rocco, Lennon, Emma, Kieran, Ashton, Leeroy, Oliver, Jack, Liam D, David, Liam R, William, Eithan & Paul.

Saturday 20th November will see the Dundee Junior Stars travel to Stevenston with their U14’s & U16’s teams to play our Stars & Predators in their 1st home games of the new season.

Admission is payable at the ice rink entrance – Adults £8, Kids & Concessions £4, Under 5’s & NAIHC Players FREE.

Well here we go again!

The kit has been bought, the parent’s are skint once more, and everyone headed to Harvies for an eagerly anticipated pre-season friendly between our very own North Ayrshire Stars and Lanarkshire Lightning 14’s, two teams that fancy themselves for one of the top spots in the SIHA U14 league section for the coming season.

The first period started competitively and within the first minute the Lanarkshire Captain Brodie Kay was sent to the sin bin for interference, but unfortunately the Stars couldn’t make him pay for his misdemeanour.  The game was played at a frantic pace, but it was fast becoming a scrappy affair with neither team able to get the puck down and play constructive hockey. With around five minutes played, it was North Ayr’s turn to be a man down, with Liam Houston sent to the box with a minor for crosschecking (although he still denies it!).

The Stars penalty kill team of Kerr, Flynn, Rocco and Rhys worked tirelessly to keep Lanarkshire at bay, but just when they thought they had done enough, Lanarkshire struck in the last second of their power play with a great goal by Tymo Szewczyk. 1-0 Lanarkshire Lightning.
From this moment on, Lanarkshire began to gain control of the game, but the Stars battled hard and the third line really stepped up to the plate displaying some really solid defensive play and energy, with Jake Larcombe in particular catching the eye with his tenacity and workrate.  Caiden Maccoll was also playing a blinder in goal, keeping Lanarkshire at bay with a string of nice saves. The Stars were really struggling to work the keeper, but with a minute left on the clock Liam Houston, after good work from Flynn Massie, managed a good shot at goal, which was well saved by Brooke Jansen. End of period; 1-0 Lanarkshire Lightning.

The second period started brightly for the home team, and they were starting to string a few passes together but with 13:24 left to play of the period, a stop in play due to an injury to Bailey Yates of Lanarkshire (thankfully he was okay), seemed to upset their rhythm and Lanarkshire began to go forward with a bit more menace once more. A great save by Caiden Maccoll after the recommencement of play gave the Stars a boost, and with a great skate down the left by Rhys Deeley almost ending up in a goal, it was evident the Stars were still in this game. Halfway through the period, Caiden Maccoll made way for Connie Mcdonald in goal after a sterling performance by the youngster.

The Lanarkshire captain Kay was really starting to impose himself on the game, and without a brilliant last ditch challenge by our captain Kerr Drummond to deny him, it looked as if 2-0 was on the cards. Shortly after though, we were down to 4 men once more after a penalty to Rhys, and within this period, Tymo Szewczyk struck for his second goal of the game, a power play goal to make it 2-0 Lanarkshire.
However, minutes later it looked as if North Ayr had pulled one back- a terrific ’snipe’ from Jacob Woods after a great pass from Adam Bainbridge looked as if he had scored ‘crossbar and down’, but the referees judged it had not crossed the line. End of period; 2-0 Lanarkshire Lightning.

North Ayr once again started the third period brightly, and good interplay by Flynn and Liam ended up in a good save by Jansen once again from Flynn’s wrister. However, penalties once again were to be the downfall of the side, and two quick power play goals for Lanarkshire effectively ended the contest. North Ayr heads were down, and Lanarkshire seized the initiative, playing some nice stuff, with almost everything created hitting the back of the net.

End of period and match; 8-0 Lanarkshire Lightning.

Positives to be taken from first two periods, but obviously a bit of work to be done in order to compete in the coming season.
